Traditional therapeutic settings can be daunting. Sitting in a room with a stranger and being asked to reveal your fears and vulnerabilities, often at a time when you are already feeling run down, stressed out, anxious or vulnerable, is confronting at best. This kind of setting can make it hard for clients to begin to trust and open up; and it is not always conducive to learning new skills in a meaningful and lasting way. For some, especially kids and teens who frequently shut down when questioned, it can take a very long time for real progress to be made.
For those with specific worries, fears, unhelpful behaviours, or trauma, our registered Psychologist Keri-Ann Smith offers formal psychological intervention. It can take place in the open air while we engage with the horses. This creates a far more natural and relaxed atmosphere to gently work through client needs and develop new skills.
Through the connection that develops between client and horse there is also a sense of acceptance, love and awe that is unique to Equine Therapy
Equine Assisted Therapy enables individuals facing physical, cognitive, behavioral, or emotional challenges to discover resilience, healing, and self-reliance by harnessing the therapeutic power and profound connection with horses with an Equine Assisted Therapist facilitating the connection.
Equine Assisted Therapeutic Sessions take place
Equine Assisted Therapy enables individuals facing physical, cognitive, behavioral, or emotional challenges to discover resilience, healing, and self-reliance by harnessing the therapeutic power and profound connection with horses with an Equine Assisted Therapist facilitating the connection.
Equine Assisted Therapeutic Sessions take place outdoors, in the fresh air, while we watch, handle and play with the horses. As clients progress through sessions and learn more about horse behaviour they also learn more about themselves. And, through the genuine connection that they develop with the horses, they experience a sense of accomplishment, love and acceptance – boosting self-esteem and confidence. This results in improved psychological health and long-term skills to promote ongoing wellbeing.
The love, acceptance and awe that is generated as the relationship between client and horse develops becomes a driver for emotional and psychological healing in Equine Assisted Therapy (EAT)
